About the Book
Will Alex be forced to make a choice that will destroy his and Penny’s second chance at love?
Alex Marsden is the son of a wealthy, genteel Georgia family. Penny Layton grew up in the dance halls of the California boomtowns. Against all odds they find each other and fall in love in the gold town of Harperville, California. But when the Civil War starts, their peaceful town votes to support the North and a mob drives all Southerners out of town. Alex must run for his life, leaving Penny behind. He finds a haven in Los Angeles where he makes a fresh start and avoids choosing sides. But the Civil War once again impacts the west when Southern generals set their sights on the ports of Los Angeles and San Diego.
